The suspect in an assault which led to the death of a patient at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center Monday has been transferred to a downstate facility, Ogdensburg police said Friday.
The victim, Robert D. Harrienger II, 58, was assaulted around 6 p.m. Monday at the centers Trinity Building. He died from his injuries Tuesday, according to the state Office of Mental Health.
Ogdensburg police Detective Daniel C. Mousaw said Friday they are waiting for all the facts before city police charges anyone in connection with the assault.
Police said they are determining potential charges with the St. Lawrence County District Attorneys Office before the name of the alleged assailant is released.
Mr. Harriengers obituary stated he died at University Hospital, Syracuse.
Police said they are also awaiting the Onondoga County Medical Examiners office autopsy report to determine the exact cause of Mr. Harriengers death. Mr. Mousaw said he was unsure how long it would take to get the report, but it take as long as a month.
Mr. Harriengers obituary said he was a general laborer in the garage of the psychiatric center for 20 years until retiring due to disability. He was a native of Adams.
