LAFARGEVILLE Route 411 in the hamlet reopened Friday, as crews with the state Department of Transportation replaced a culvert that connected the roadway to Interstate 81.
The road was first closed May 5 after crews determined the culvert was in the early stages of collapse after getting a call from a concerned resident. The culvert carries the road over the Chaumont River.
Michael R. Flick, spokesman for the state Department of Transportations Region 7, said the work was finished about 12:30 p.m. Friday. Crews were able to complete the work about two weeks ahead of schedule by using standard-issue materials, rather than creating a custom piece for the 12-foot-wide, 50-foot-long culvert.
Mr. Flick said minor work, such as the placement of signs and guardrails, will be done over the next few weeks.
