Celiac disease support group to meet in June

POTSDAM — Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Celiac Disease Support Group will meet on June 23 at 7 p.m.on the 2nd floor Classroom of the Hospital’s main campus, located at 50 Leroy Street. Individuals living with celiac and those caring for loved-ones with the disease are welcome and encouraged to attend. Interested members of the community may also benefit from attending. Participants are welcome to share recipes, coping recommendations, and experiences as they feel comfortable.

Celiac Disease (CD) is a lifelong digestive disorder affecting children and adults. When people with CD eat foods that contain gluten, it creates an immune-mediated toxic reaction that causes damage to the small intestine and does not allow food to be properly absorbed. Even small amounts of gluten in foods can affect those with CD and cause health problems. Although gluten is most commonly found in pastas and breads made with wheat flour, some medications also contain gluten.

Attendees are asked to bring a favorite recipe to share with the group. For more information or to participate in this support group, please contact Beverly Rascoe at 261-5975 or
