CJ’s-Chip’s Place booters win men’s summer soccer opener


POTSDAM - CJ’s-Chip’s Place kicked off the 2014 North Country Men’s Summer Soccer season by pulling away to a 10-1 win over Ogdensburg AMP-Jreck’s at the SUNY Potsdam turf field on Sunday.

Christopher Negron anchored the winning effort with a pair of goals. Ted Cook, Willi Steinrotter, Tony Betrus and Bryant Wickwire all tallied a goal and assist. Mark Misiak, Tommy Crabill, Steve Delizin and Chris Custer connected for the other goals. Zac Votra drew a pair of assists. Grant Sharlow and John Conger each finished with solo helpers while Ben Steinberg turned aside two shots backstopping the win.

In other opening night matchups, Massena Savings and Loan-Kassian Realty outlsted Cornerstone Energy Services-SeaComm 1-0, North Country Savings Bank of Canton outscored S&L Electric of Colton 2-1, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union of Lisbon beat Ogdensburg Pepsi-The Place 5-1 and Frary Funeral Home of Ogdensburg downed Cornerstone Wesleyan Church-Town and Country Vet Clinic of Heuvelton 8-2.

Massena 1, CES-SeaComm 0: At Clarkson’s Hantz Field, Ryan Chauvin scored the only goal of the game off an assist from Connor Dix in the 72nd minute and Alan Davis made eight saves working the crease for the shutout.

Canton 2, Colton 1: At Swift Field in South Colton, Mario Riccardi scored the only first-half goal and Alex Minsker connected for what would hold up as the game-winner.

Mike Bonno finished off a play set up by Devin Gruneisen to account for the S&L Electric goal.

Austin Lamay stopped six shots in the winning effort.

Lisbon 5, Pepsi-The Place 1: Adam Kelley led the winning offense with three goals. Adam Felt (2 assists) and Donnie Wilhelm (1 assist) struck for the other goals.

Mike O’Neill converted off an assist from Grant Prudhomme for the lone Pepsi-The Place tally.

Frary 8, Heuvelton 2: Ricky Stevenson, Jordan Spears and Josh Rishe netted two goals each in the winning cause. Brandon Davok and Dylan Reed added one goal apiece.
