Delisle leads Section 10 Golfers At States


ITHACA - Under warm conditions, Brushton-Moira junior Devin Delisle surged from a 14th place tie after day one on Sunday (77) to fire a 70 in the second round at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University in Ithaca on Monday to earn a berth in the New York State Federation Championship in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships.

Delisle finished with a 147 tied with Joe Blando of Manhasset High School of Section VIII for fourth place.

In placing fourth Delisle qualified for the New York State Federation Championship.

Senior Jack Gianniny of Pittsford Sutherland HS (Section V) won the individual title by three strokes with an even over-par total of 142 over senior Kyle Mathews (Shenendehowa HS-II).

Josh Goldenberg (Scarsdale HS-I) finished third with a two-day total of 146

Gianniny had the low round of the day with a two-under-par 69 along with Joe Blando.

Section I won the State Section Championship with a two-day total of 1068, which includes the best seven-out-of-nine scores from both rounds. They finished 10 shots ahead of second place Section V and 18 shots ahead of third place Section VIII.

Section 10 finished 10 of 11 sections with a 1231.

OFA’s Conor Hannan was tied for 45th with a a strong showing 80-85 165 which placed him in the top quarter of the field. Tupper Lake’s Riley Amell was tied for 75th with a 94-90 174. Madrid-Waddington’s Jeff Mott produced a second round score of 89 for a 180 two day total placing 86th.

Massena golfer Kendrick Swamp took 93rd at 89-97 for 186 and Tristan Moore placed 96th for OFA at 96-96 192.

Massena golfer Hunter Francis (97-99) came in tied with OFA’s Rudy Binion (103-93), who shot 10 strokes better on day two, at 196 for 97th and OFA’s Jed McRoberts finished three strokes back at 94-105-199.
