High school sports: Section 3 honors 10 Frontier League athletes for academics


Ten Frontier League athletes have been honored as Section 3 Scholar Athletes for their work in both the classroom and the playing field.

To be eligible, student-athletes from the 105 schools within Section 3 must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 90 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Section 3 sponsored sport. Other factors such as community service, exemplary citizenship and other extracurricular activities are taken into consideration.

The Section 3 Scholar-Athelte Awards Dinner will be held on June 9 at SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College. More than $6,500 in college scholarships will be awarded at that time.

Local athletes chosen are: Hannah Millich (tennis, basketball, lacrosse) and Bailey Wilkinson (football, lacrosse) of Carthage; Rachel O’Brien (soccer, basketball, lacrosse) and Jared Pignone (soccer, hockey, lacrosse) of Immaculate Heart Central; Kimberly Collins (soccer, golf, track, cheerleading) and Troy Wilson (soccer, basketball, baseball) of Lyme; Gabriella Guarasce (soccer, volleyball, softball, cheerleading) and Jake Benedict (football, wrestling) of Sandy Creek; and Darien Frederick (swimming, golf) and Austin Bach (football, basketball, baseball) from Thousand Islands.
