Lewis County Hospital Foundation, Friends of Hospice partner for golf tournament

BRANTINGHAM — The Lewis County Hospital Foundation has partnered with Friends of Lewis County Hospice for a charitable golf tournament to be held June 27.

“The Lewis County Hospital Foundation is pleased to partner with Friends of Lewis County Hospice to raise funds to support the work that both organizations do in Lewis County,” said JoAnne Rhubart, foundation executive director.

The tournament will take the place of the Hospital Foundation’s annual tourney and sports auction and the Friends of the Hospice’s annual Joe Boissy Memorial Golf Tournament.

The event will be held at Brantingham Golf Course, Brantingham Road, and is open to four person captain and crew. Participation costs $75 per person or $300 per team, which includes greens fees, a cart, a continental breakfast, lunch and light refreshments following the tourney. The event is open to men, women or co-ed teams. Cash prices will be awarded. Several hole-in-one contests will be held on the greens, including the opportunity to win a car from Lowville New Car Dealers Association, $10,000 in cash — sponsored through AmeriCu — or a flat screen TV and a set of golf clubs through US Hole in One, which also is donating a golf club to each tourney player at the cost of shipping and handling.

Closest to pin and skins will be available at an extra fee. Additionally, there will be raffles, door prizes and a putting contest.

The tournament is held each year to raise awareness of the health care services provided by the hospital. Proceeds will assist in the purchase of an automated breast cancer ultrasound machine, which is used to screen dense breast tissue so that anomalies may be caught earlier than they would be if screened through a standard mammogram.

“In our community alone, a screening breast ultrasound program would benefit upward of 1,000 women per year by diagnosing breast cancer at an earlier stage where it is more treatable; ultimately saving lives in our community,” a prepared statement said.

Proceeds also will assist Friends of Lewis County Hospice programs and general operations.

The Hospital Foundation financially assists Lewis County General Hospital with programs, services and capital improvement costs. Friends of the Hospice financially assists Lewis County Hospice, which cares for terminally ill patients.

Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. with tee-off at 9 a.m. Forms are available at the Lewis County Hospital Foundation Facebook page and are asked to be turned in by Friday. For more information, call 376-5110 or email Ms. Rhubart at
