The Northern New York Bassmasters Team trail held a tournament on Lake Ontario on Saturday and the big lake produced big results.
It was a record-setting day as teams brought in gigantic bags of smallmouth. In addition to the largest bag of fish ever weighed there were four other teams that broke into the top 10 heaviest bags ever weighed in.
Willie Steinrotter and Guy Arnold (Potsdam-Waddnington) led the way with a 25.75 lbs entry which was the heaviest bag ever weighed in club history.
Tyler and Carrie Capella of Canton placed second with a 23.72 lbs entry which included the Lunker of the day in a 6.22-pound smallmouth. The massive smallie was the fourth largest fish weighed in a club history.
Nine bass weighing over five pounds were weighed in on the day.
Dick Garlock and Bob Marceau (Alex Bay and Ogdensburg) placed third with 23.37 lbs and fourth went to Ryan Nichols and Greg Nichols (Gouverneur) with 23.02 lbs.
The Capella-Capella team now leads a close race for Team of the Year with 399 points. Garlock and Marceau stand second at 397 and the top five is rounded out by: Nichols and Nichols at 393, Tim O’Grady and Steve Garrabrant of Ogdensburg 391 and O’Hern and Marcum at 387.
