Collegiate baseball: Watertown Rams suffer sweep

GLENS FALLS — The Watertown Rams were swept in a doubleheader for the first time this season, this time at the hands of the Glens Falls Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles blanked the Rams, 4-0 in the first game, and completed the sweep with a 3-1 victory in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League play on Wednesday at East Field.

In the first game, Ben Brown out dueled Mitch Sewald to earn the win for Glens Falls, which halted Watertown’s winning streak at four games.

The Golden Eagles scored all of their runs in the fifth inning — sparked by a two-run single from J.Q. Folena.

In the nightcap, Mike Harrington earned the win for Glens Falls, with Watertown native Anthony Magovney taking the loss in his first appearance of the season.

Trailing 1-0, the Rams tied the game in the sixth inning as Shane Servoss singled and went on to steal third base, scoring on an errant throw. Folena would score the deciding run in the bottom of the inning after he walked to lead off the frame.

Watertown (14-11) remains in first-place in the West Division with a half-game lead over Newark and Elmira.

The Rams, who are 4-4 in doubleheaders this season, including recording splits against Newark and Elmira last week, were shut out for only the second time this season.
