POTSDAM — The Town Council received a $100,000 reimbursement last week for construction and engineering costs for installing an elevator at the town courthouse, 35 Market St. The grant extends back to 2005.
The entire sum, which was received July 3, will pay for the elevator, according to Town Clerk Cindy L. Goliber. The elevator was finally completed last year in cooperation with state Historic Preservation Office officials, and after several planning and hazard related setbacks during construction. The project has been through three state senators and nearly a decade of negotiating.
The town received the grant in 2005 from then-state Sen. Raymond A. Meier. Former state Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine and current Sen. Joseph A. Griffo, R-Utica, have authorized and reauthorized its continuation in their tenures. “I’m happy to report that we turned in all the paperwork,” Town Supervisor Marie C. Regan said. “I’m very proud of it.”
