A Budweiser Super Bowl advertisement featuring a Fort Drum soldier’s homecoming from Afghanistan was nominated for an Emmy.
The ad, starring Lt. Chuck Nadd of the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, was shot as he and his girlfriend, Shannon Cantwell, were welcomed with a surprise parade in Lt. Nadd’s hometown of Winter Park, Fla. The Black Hawk helicopter pilot initially was told he was completing a “public affairs assignment” speech to a Veterans of Foreign Wars group in his hometown, and starring in a documentary.
The homecoming ad has been viewed more than 9 million times on YouTube. It is one of five nominated in the Outstanding Commercial category. The awards will air Aug. 25 on NBC.
A report in Foreign Policy indicated that Army officials were concerned that the ad would imply an endorsement of alcoholic products, violating service policies. The ad was given final military approval two days before airing.
