CANTON — A St. Lawrence County grand jury handed up two indictments against two Ogdensburg men Friday afternoon.
Kevin M. McCarthy Jr., 30, of 414 Belmont Courts, is charged with third-degree solicitation, a class C felony, and endangering the welfare of a child.
It is alleged that on May 17 in the city, Mr. McCarthy attempted to meet someone under the age of 16 for sexual activity.
According to earlier reports by the Times, documents said Mr. McCarthy was communicating with a 15-year-old via an electronic device, but it was unclear what kind of device. When he attempted to meet the child at a specific location within the city, police arrested him. It also was unclear whether a child was ever at risk.
Under the indicted charge of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor, the act would have likely been “injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of a child less than 17 years of age.”
James W. Summers, 27, of 402 Main St., is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, a class D felony, and three counts of third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on March 27 in the city he recklessly caused physical injury to Cornelia Steenkamer, who is a registered nurse, while she was performing an assigned duty while also intending to prevent her from performing a lawful duty. Mr. Summers also allegedly caused physical injury to Eric Saucier.
