CANTON — There will be a three-way race this fall for two St. Lawrence County coroner positions.

Incumbents James M. Sienkiewycz, Massena, a Democrat, and Joseph E. White, Russell, a Republican, are running. Republican W. Joseph Lacks, Gouverneur, a county fire investigator, also is throwing his hat into the ring.

Mr. Sienkiewycz, a funeral director, was first elected coroner in 2006.

Mr. White, the owner of O’Leary Funeral Service in Canton, was elected coroner in 2010. He is also running on the Conservative line.

Mr. Lacks, who also will appear on the Conservative line, said he was asked to run because some people wanted to have a coroner who lives in the southern end of the county.

“Some people were looking to have someone closer,” Mr. Lacks said. “I think it’s a good way of helping people.”

Other incumbents, who are not running this year, are June H. Wood, Hopkinton, and Kevin J. Crosby, Morristown.

Mr. Lacks, who is also a volunteer firefighter, said he thought he had the qualifications for coroner as he is often at accident scenes and fires.

“I’m very close to a lot of these fatal scenes anyway,” he said.

Several other countywide positions will be on the ballot in November.

County Judge Jerome J. Richards, a Democrat, is running for another term.

Democrat John F. Richey is running unopposed to succeed Kathleen Martin Rogers, who retired as Surrogate Court judge. Mr. Richey was Judge Rogers’s principal court attorney for the last 25 years.

County Treasurer Kevin M. Felt, a Republican who will also appear on the Conservative line, is running unopposed for a second term.
