Delisle leads junior tour tournament at Malone Golf Club

MALONE - Brushton native Devin Delisle, the reigning Section 10 champion, picked up his second consecutive win in the 16-18 Age Division on the North Country Junior Golf Tour this past Tuesday, as he made seven birdies en route to a blistering round of 68 at the Malone Golf Club.

Bjorn Kroes (13-15) and Adam Szlamczynski (12-and-Younger) also picked up wins on Tuesday in their respective divisions.

Delisle, who finished in the top-5 of the high school New York State Championships this spring for Bruston-Moira, had birdies on the par-4 2nd and 4th holes to get into red figures. Despite a bogie at the par-5 5th, he answered with birdies at the 7th and 8th for a front nine round of 33. He cruised to a 12-stroke win over Davis Sprague with a back nine 35 that included three birdies in the final five holes for the round of four-under.

In the 13-15 Division, Kroes made his debut on the North Country Junior Golf Tour a successful one with a narrow one stroke victory over Tanner Courcelle, last week’s winner at Potsdam. Kroes trailed Courcelle, Mark Mahoney and Danny Christy by a stroke heading to the back nine, but three straight pars got him into a tie for the lead. Back-to-back pars at 15 and 16 gave him a two stroke advantage, and Kroes was able to two putt for par on the difficult 18th hole to solidify the win with a round of 83. Courcelle followed with an 84 while Christy was third in the 12-player field with an 89.

Meanwhile, Szlamczynski won for the second straight event in the nine-hole 12-and-Younger flight with a round of 46, one stroke ahead of John Mahoney. Pars on holes 5, 6 and 8 helped Szlamczysnki to victory, with Mahoney following with a 47 and Tyler Berkman in third with a 50.

The North Country Junior Golf Tour rolls on next week, as players will tee it up at Partridge Run Golf & Country Club in Cantonthis coming Tuesday.
