PHILADELPHIA — The FC Freeze U16 team’s bid to sweep the regular season and postseason honors of the NNY Youth Soccer League fell just short when the Upstate United SC Fusion scored three unanswered goals rallying from a 2-0 deficit and post a 3-2 title game victory.
The FC Freeze reached the finals with a 1-0 sudden death overtime victory over the Thousand Island Soccer Unit. The postseason tournament games were shortened to 40 minutes, ended the locals season with an overall mark of 9-2.
FC Freeze 1 - TISC 0 (OT): Ogdensburg’s Peyton Lalone dribbled in the game-winner from a perfectly place cross from Lisbon’s Adam Kelley just two minutes into the sudden death overtime to advance the FC Freeze unit into the finals. Kelley and Lisbon’s Riley Alberto controlled the midfield play with Nick Spooner, also of Lisbon, collecting six saves in the crease.
SC FUSION 3 - FC Freeze 2: The FC Freeze jumped out of the gate quickly tallying two quick goals as Ogdensburg’s Peyton Lalone rifled home a pair of goals with Lisbon’s Adam Kelley and Madrid-Waddington’s Tyler Robinson each drawing assists.
The SC Fusion scored just before the half then tallied an early one in the second half to deadlock the contest before an arrant clearing attempt from a FC Freeze fullback went into the locals own goal to cap off the scoring.
Lisbon’s Nick Spooner collected six saves in the contest with Malone’s Patrick Bylow anchoring the defensive end.
FREEZE 18U DENIED
PHILADELPHIA - The Upstate United SC Wolfpack tallied three goals in a span of five minutes then held off the U18’s FC Freeze squad, which forged a second half rally, to secure a 3-1 victory in the finals of the NNYYSL Postseason tournament held on Friday Night.
The locals reached the finals with a 1-0 victory over the General Brown Soccer Club which capped off a 6-3 campaign.
In the finals, the SC Wolfpack grouped three quick goals and opened up a 3-0 halftime lead before Ogdensburg’s Peyton Lalone bulleted home a low shot to get the FC Freeze on the board.
Potsdam’s Ebuka Ononeye sent the through pass to record the assist on the goal and teamed with Lalone and Lisbon’s Adam Kelley to keep continued pressure throughout the second half. Lisbon’s Nick Spooner collected seven saves in the crease.
In the opener, Ononeye collected the rebound from his own shot to account for the game’s only goal with Spooner stopping four shots for the shutout.
The FC Freeze completed its U18 regular season with a 6-2 mark following an 8-1 victory over the Thousand Island Soccer Club on Thursday evening. Potsdam’s Dominic Frascatore scored two goals and passed out one assist, Parishville-Hopkingrton’s Wyatt Snell, Lisbon’s Tristen Vine and Adam Kelley each scored one goal and passed out an assist with Ogdensburg’s Peyton Lalone passing out a pair of assists.
Madrid-Waddington’s Tyler Robinson, Lisbon’s Nick Spooner and Canton’s Jacob Oatman also found the back of the net for the locals with Malone’s Patrick Bylow also recording an assist. Spooner and Snell combined for six saves in the crease.
The FC Freeze will travel to Indian River tonight for a postseason tournament as they will open with the General Brown Soccer Club 6:30 p.m. (40 minute game) in one semi-final match-up with the other being Upstate United Wolfpack vs TISC in the other contest. The winners will meet at 7:30 p.m. for the postseason title.
