Library Patron Seeks Old Ogdensburg Advance Issue

Warmer weather should return this week, but if it doesn’t: cooler than expected temperatures and an abundance of rain will make this a good time to curl up with book, magazine, or movie.

MISSING NEWSPAPER One of our patrons is looking for a copy of the Ogdensburg Advance dated June 1, 1869 to be used in a research project.

Since this is one that predates our records, he’s turning to the community to help. Should you have some old newspapers hidden away, take a look through them! If you find the edition we need, please contact Linda Marshall, Archivist, at the library.

ZOMBIES RETURN Teens: ever wonder if you have what it takes to survive the zombie apocalypse? Wonder no more! We’ll be playing Humans vs. Zombies this Saturday, August 23 at 11 AM. It will be a wild game of capture the flag, with added water balloons (and the undead.) We need players for both sides, so feel free to come in costume. The more people we have the better, so bring your friends! Complete rules are on our website at ogdlib.org/Teens.

JUST ARRIVED Continue your armchair vacation with Unruly Places: Lost Spaces, Secret Cities, and Other Inscrutable Geographies. If you’ve had enough of tiger moms, try The Dolphin Way for gentler parenting suggestions.

Avid readers may enjoy learning more about the late Maeve Binchy in a just-published biography. If the new title you want isn’t on our shelf, try checking for it online in e-Book format via our website.

We have many recent novels by popular authors available in the digital catalog. They can also be reserved just like paper books.

DISPLAYS Our series of the month is the Goldy Bear Culinary Mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson. Each book features a food-themed title on the cover and plenty of mayhem inside, with bonus recipes at the end.

Take one from the table, or put in a request for a volume we’re missing. Also this month, we’re holding display tributes to the works of Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall. Movies featuring these beloved stars, who passed away last week, have been flying off the shelves.

MUSIC AND MOVEMENT Toddlers are invited to shake out their sillies on Tuesdays at 10 AM. Meet other area families and come dance with us!

STORY TIME Join us for our weekly story hour! Every Wednesday at 10:30 AM we’ll share a picture book (or two) and do a simple craft. This week’s theme is sleep. All children ages 3-6 are welcome.

During the summer, we will be outside in Library Park as the weather permits.

We welcome your QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, CONCERNS, BOOK REQUESTS, AND PROGRAMMING IDEAS. Contact us at 312 Washington Street, ogdlib@ncls.org, 393-4325, or any of our social media sites (you can do a search for Ogdensburg Public Library, or find the links on our website at ogdlib.org.)

WEEKLY SUMMER HOURS are 9 AM to 8 PM Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9 AM to 5 PM Wednesday and Friday, and 9 AM to 3 PM Saturday.

The library will be closed on Saturday, August 30 and Monday, September 1 for Labor Day.

Our regular hours (9 - 5 on Saturdays) will return September 6. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at your library!
