Funeral services for Kathryn A. Polniak, age 84, of Knox Street, will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Frary Funeral Home on 515 Caroline Street, from 2:00 to 4:00PM & 6:00 to 8:00PM. Mrs. Polniak passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Kathryn is survived by her loving husband, William; two sons, Dave and his wife, Joyce and Steve and his wife, Sue, both of Ogdensburg; one brother, Robert Barr and his wife, Barbara, of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren, Renee Bracy, Robert Polniak, Michelle Friot, Scott Polniak, Steve Polniak, Spencer Polniak and Stacie Polniak and eleven great grandchildren. She is predeceased by a brother, David.

Kathryn was born on January 10, 1930, in Morley, the daughter of Stewart and Marion Lindey Barr. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1946. She married William Polniak on December 7, 1948 with Rev. Monseigneur Clarence Devan officiating. She first worked at JJ Newberry’s in Ogdensburg and then for Cleveland Containers and Northern New York Publishers until 1971 when she retired.

Kathryn enjoyed gambling, going to the casino and playing the lottery as well as gardening and bowling. She also loved watching the New York Yankees.
