Jock enjoys record-setting performances at World Masters Swim Meet

MONTREAL — Six thousand swimmers from a record 97 countries, including Northern TRIBS Swimming co-founder, assistant coach and Adirondack District Masters Swimmer Jessica Jock, participated in the 15th FINA World Masters Championship from July 27 to Aug. 10 in Parc Jean Drapeau in Montreal.

The FINA event is the federation’s biggest competition in terms of participation, and welcomes all water athletes aged 25 to more than 100 years old from all corners of the world. It included 50-meter pool swimming, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and open water swimming.

Jock, 35, had been training part-time throughout the summer with the club’s competitive swim program to prepare for this event. She was entered in four events in the Women’s 35-39 Age Group - Long Course Meter 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 400 IM and 50 Fly. She placed top 20 in two of her events, and achieved new Adirondack Master’s Swimming Records in three out of four of her events.

“FINA nailed it with their slogan, ‘Water is our World.’ To be able to participate in such a global event interacting and competing with people from all different cultural backgrounds, languages, ages, abilities and life journeys with the commonality of love for water, life and fitness was surreal. I was honored to just be a participant, and stood in awe watching past Olympians set new world records in their age groups. The 90-plus swimmers are the most inspirational. I’ve got my eye on future events, for sure,” Jock said.

Her individual results in the 35-39 LC Meter events and new ADMS records are listed below:

Women 35-39 LC Meter 400 IM - Individual Results, 6:16.74; Women 35-39 LC Meter 200 Backstroke - new record of 2:53.45 (the previous ADMS record was 2:54.13 in 2011);

Women 35-39 LC Meter 50 Fly - new record of 33.28 (the previous ADMS record was 35.61 in 1988); Women 35-39 LC Meter 100 Freestyle - new record of 1:09.52 (the previous ADMS record was 1:11.90 in 1991).

A former Salmon River Central standout, Jock still holds the majority of the Section 10 individual records.
